Ujjain: Shivnavaratri has started in Mahakal temple from Friday. The priests made Lord Mahakal a groom by applying sandalwood paste. Performed aarti wearing new clothes. Along with this, the lord will now be adorned in various forms for 9 days.

On the first day of Shivanavaratra, Lord Chandramauleshwar was worshiped in Naivedya Kaksh, and worship of Lord Koteshwar and Rameshwar Mahadev located near Kotitirtha was performed. After this, under the Acharyaship of priest Ghanshyam Guru in the sanctum sanctorum, 11 Brahmins anointed and recited Ekadash-Ekadashi Rudra Path. Today, after prasad aarti at 2 pm and sandhya puja at 3 pm, the lord will be made to wear new clothes. On the first day of Shivanavaratra, the Lord was adorned with silver ornaments along with wearing a sola, dupatta, and a mekhala.

Priests and devotees begin fasting:-

Devotees who worship Goddess Durga keep fast in Chaitra and Sharadiya Navratri. Similarly, devotees of Mahadev perform Shivanavaratri. According to priest Mahesh Guru, priests, and devotees of Mahakal temple will also start fasting for 9 days from Friday.
