New Delhi: The Air Quality Management Commission (CAQM) on Friday informed the apex court that a total of 1,534 sites including factories and construction sites have been inspected by 40 flying squads in Delhi-NCR states and a notice has been sent for closure of 228 sites, while 111 of them have been closed to curb air pollution levels.

Chief Justice (CJI) N.V. The Raman-led bench took note of the action taken so far by the Commission and the National Capital Region (NCR) States - Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan - as well as minor improvement in air pollution levels in Delhi-NCR. The court allowed the commission to take a decision on the representation urging it to relax restrictions on construction activities within a week.

The affidavit filed by the CAQM Director in NCR and adjoining areas in consultation with states and other officials has explained the short term and long term measures being taken by it in consultation with states and other officials and said that the Central Government has stated that in view of the power situation, it will not be possible to shut down thermal power near Delhi-NCR after December 15.
