Chandigarh: Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi to be a new Punjab Chief Minister, a cabinet minister in the Amarinder Singh government in Punjab, will be the next CM of Punjab. After interacting with the MLAs of the All India Congress Committee on Sunday, a nod has been given in Channi's name and the party command has given permission in the name. He is likely to take oath as chief minister today. Party sources said Channi may be given the command of Panjab. Only a formal announcement is left on behalf of the party.

 

A meeting with Rahul and Ambika Soni and Digar senior leaders and MLAs is currently underway at Rahul Gandhi's residence in Delhi. In Chandigarh, Congress MLA Pritam Kotbhai has said that the MLA has elected Charanjit Singh Channi as its leader.  Earlier, Channi said that he has never wanted any post. Asked if talks were also going on about his name for the next CM, Channi said he and his family had never wanted any post.

When questioned by the same reporters whether he was discussing with the next CM of Punjab, he said, "You are talking to a Congress worker. Talking about the selection of a new legislature party leader, Channi said that we have authorized the Congress in this regard. He said the Congress leadership has held talks with MLAs as well as senior party leaders. Asked why it is taking so long to elect a new leader of the legislature party, Channi said that if you choose a village Sarpanch, it sometimes takes 20 days.''
