Kochi: A special court in Kochi on Friday rejected the bail application of Swapna Suresh, the main accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case. The Enforcement Directorate had registered a case in this regard. The special PMLA court dismissed the bail application on the grounds that the accused had confessed to the ED in a statement under the section of the Prevention of Money Laundering Law (PMLA) that he was involved in conspiring and smuggling gold from abroad.

At the same time, opposing the bail application of Suresh, the ED has said that the accused had confided in front of him with the other accused involved in the crime. The ED said that his confession indicates that he had a significant impact in the Kerala CM's office and if he is released on bail, there is a possibility of tampering with the evidence and influencing the witnesses. The agency further said that the release of the petitioner on bail is expected to create obstacles in the investigation process.

Let us tell you that this entire case is of stealing thirty kilos of gold from the diplomatic cargo with the address of UAE in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala. It was claimed that Swapna Suresh had approached the plane officer regarding the cargo. UAE Consulate General Office High Diplomat Rashid Khamis Al Shamli was reportedly contacted after speaking. The price of smuggled gold has been reported to be Rs 15 crore.
