First case registered in Uttarakhand after three divorce laws enacted, investigation begins

Dehradun: After the passing of three divorce bills in the House where there is a wave of happiness among women of Muslim society. The bill criminalising triple talaq of Muslim women has now become a law. While Muslim women are expressing gratitude to PM Modi for this, the first case has been registered in the province since three divorce laws were enacted from Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand.

According to information, the case has been registered at Sahaspur police station where a woman has registered a case against her husband. The woman is said to be a resident of Kedarwala village. Her husband Aslam had left her as three divorces, after which the victim reached the police station and lodged a case against her husband Aslam. On the other hand, the police say that an inquiry has been initiated by filing a complaint. He said strict action will be taken against the accused soon.

The landmark bill declaring triple talaq as a crime against Muslim women has been approved by Late President Ram Nath Kovind late Wednesday (31 August). With the president signing the bill, the Muslim Women (Protection of Marriage Rights) Bill has now become a law. The law will be deemed effective from September 19, 2018.
