Hyderabad: Telangana police on Tuesday arrested a man for brutally assaulting his three-year-old daughter. The action was taken by Medak district police after a video of the man beating his daughter went viral on social media. District Superintendent of Police Chandana Deepti spoke to the girl's mother. The girl has been sent to a government shelter home.
The 32-year-old accused M. Nagaraju, who has been absconding since the video went viral, was arrested on Tuesday. IPC Taking suo motu cognizance of the video, police on Monday took suo motu cognizance and registered a case under Section 324 (punishment for voluntarily causing injury with dangerous weapons or means) of the Juvenile Justice Act (punishment for cruelty to a child). In the video, municipal employee Nagaraju is seen beating his daughter with a rope for refusing to eat food. Nagaraju's wife Vennala said to be his second wife, is seen smiling. Nagaraju had picked up the girl from her neck and also patted her on the floor.
The incident took place on the night of September 19 when Nagaraju's neighbour secretly made a video of the incident and posted it on social media. The women and child welfare department said on Tuesday that the girl has been rescued and sent to a safe place.
