HYDERABAD: Telangana Finance Minister T. Harish Rao submitted a Rs 2.56 lakh crore budget for the fiscal year 2022-23 on Monday, up from Rs 2.31 lakh crore last year.

He suggested a total spending of Rs 2,56,958.51 crore in his budget presentation to the Assembly. Revenue expenditures were Rs 1,89,274.82 crore, while capital expenditures total Rs 29,728.44 crore.

The government has set aside Rs 17,700 crore for Dalit Bandhu, a new scheme for economic empowerment of Dalits that was introduced on a trial basis last year. Every Dalit family will receive a Rs 10 lakh subsidy for any business venture of their choice under the scheme. It is a historic and first-of-its-kind plan in the country, according to Harish Rao, because it provides the maximum amount of support directly to the beneficiary.

At a rate of 100 households each Assembly sector, the benefit would be distributed to 11,800 families across the state. He stated that the initiative would reach two lakh families by the end of the next fiscal year, and that the administration is committed to gradually covering all Dalit families in the state.
