New Delhi: The Telangana government has organised a Dharna in Delhi on Monday morning to protest the Centre's discriminatory paddy procurement policy.

The protest against the Union Government would include Telangana elected officials, TRS party MPs, MLCs, MLAs, and elected representatives of urban and rural local governments.

On April 11 in Delhi, the Telangana government will undertake a day-long dharna to protest the Union government's discriminatory paddy procurement policy, which affects 61 lakh farmers and their families.

Telangana Bhavan, the protest venue, is being set up for the major protest in Delhi, and the Telangana ruling party says that the Centre is not acquiring paddy from Telangana farmers.

TRS workers in Telangana recently blocked four national highways to stress their demand for a "uniform" procurement strategy across the country. In order to bring the matter to a national level, the party decided to hold a protest in Delhi. TRS MLC K Kavitha, daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, told the media on Sunday that the country's food security would be affected if the Centre did not adopt a "universal procurement" policy.

On March 24, Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, informed Telangana farmers that there is no discrimination between farmers from other states, and that some politicians in Telangana are misleading the state's farmers.

Telangana's government has been pleading with the federal government to buy all of the state's paddy. A group of state ministers even met with union ministers last year to make a clear pronouncement on paddy procurement, including the quantity.
