Brendan Brisson became the 25th player in the University of Michigan hockey history to be chosen in the opening round of the NHL draft. The Vegas Golden Knights selected the 6-foot freshman center with the 29th overall pick on Tuesday night. “I think he is a lot like Pierre-Luc Dubois of the Columbus Blue Jackets in that, you want to skate? I’ll skate with you,” analyst Bob McKenzie was quoted saying on NBC Sports. “You want to shoot? I’ll shoot with you. I can play-make as good as anybody and I’m in the fight, I’m in the battle.”

Brendan was named the United States Hockey League Rookie of the Year last season after recording 24 goals and 35 assists in 59 games for the Chicago Steel. Center Thomas Bordeleau also is supposed to be an early-round pick this year, while defenseman Owen Power, and forwards Matty Beniers and Kent Johnson are projected to be first-round picks in 2021. Brisson becomes Michigan’s fifth first-round draft pick in the past four years and the eighth since 2014.
