New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led governments seem to be in the habit of taking credit for the central government's work. The Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi has done this many times. Now in Punjab also, the AAP-led government has started doing the same. In this episode, the party is now caught taking credit for an act done by the Indian Railways last year. Northern Railway has dismissed the AAP MLA's claim on his official Twitter account that he had completed the "long-stalled" railway underbridge project.
Â
Today I and @AAPHarbhajan inaugurated the long pending railway underbridge in Morinda. This project had been moving at a snail’s pace for more than 2.5 years. @AAPPunjab govt. under the leadership of @BhagwantMann completed the work in less than 3 months. pic.twitter.com/hlbpE0HLc4

In fact, AAP MLA Charanjit Singh had posted a tweet on Thursday (June 2, 2022). In it, he claimed that the Bhagwant Mann government had completed a long-pending railway underbridge, which was moving at snail's pace during the previous government. The AAP MLA from Sri Chamkaur Sahib claimed that the construction of the railway underbridge at Morinda had been going on at a slow pace for more than two and a half years, which was completed by the Bhagwant Mann government in less than three months. Â He said that after the completion of the project, he and minister Harbhajan Singh launched the underbridge. Pictures of the same were also shared on social media. Singh also said that in March he had promised to complete the project by June 30 and completed it before the deadline. However, the AAP MLA's claim proved to be misleading to the people, as the work of the underbridge project was completed by the Indian Railways quite some time ago. The Railways' North Zone has reported that the work on the underbridge was completed in December 2021, months before the AAP government came to power in Punjab.
Â
The work of Railway underbridge was completed in Dec'21. The approach road was supposed to be completed by State Govt., hence the work was pending on account of State Govt. since Dec'21. https://t.co/7bk7JtJKL7

The railways has said that the entire underbridge was not being used at that time as the approach road work was not completed, which was the responsibility of the state government. It has also been said that the work was not pending because of the railways, but because of the state government. It is clear from this that the underbridge was completed in December 2021. This has not been fulfilled by the current 'AAP' government of Punjab, as Charanjit Singh is claiming. Â However, it is true that they have now completed the work of approach road, which is the work of the state government and which was pending since the time of the previous Congress government. The railway underbridge at Morinda, built at a cost of Rs 22 crore, was inaugurated by Public Works and Power Minister Harbhajan Singh on June 1 along with Dr Charanjit Singh, MLA from Sri Chamkaur Sahib. The PWD minister had informed during the inauguration that the railway under bridge box portion has been constructed by the railways, while the approach road along the service road on both sides of the RUB has been constructed by the Punjab PWD. Even after the construction of the approach road, the work of the service road is going on.
