Three Indian boxers, including World Championship silver medalist Amit Panghal, have made it to the finals of the Thailand Open boxing tournament in Phuket. In the women's section, Ananta Prahlad (54 weight category) while in men's Sumit (75 weight category) and Panghal (52 weight category) secured at least a silver medal for India after reaching the finals. 

Manisha (57 weight category), Pooja (69 weight category) and Bhagyabati Kachari (75 weight category) had to be content with bronze medals after losing their respective semi-final matches. 4 Indian boxers Ashish Kumar (81kg), Monika (48kg), Govind Sahni (48kg) and Varinder Singh (60kg) have already made it to the finals. In this way, seven Indian boxers are going to be seen posing a challenge for the gold medal.

Panghal defeated Ayatollah Takiz of Kazakhstan by Tran Van Thao and Sumit of Vietnam. Anantha also won an impressive 5-0 victory over Vietnam's boxer, Bui Taron Thai.
