KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on February 3 directed the CBI to submit, in a sealed cover, a report on their ongoing probe into the 2017 rape and murder case of 2 minor Dalit sisters in Palakkad district.
A bench of Justice K. Babu gave the order while hearing the plea of the mother of the two girl seeking monitoring of the probe.

This case took place in January 2017, when the older of the two sisters, aged 13, was seen hanging inside her house at Walayar in Palakkad by her younger sister, aged 9.

The younger sister told the police that she had seen 2 men leave the house that day and her parents said that their daughter had been killed. But the police registered a case of unnatural death.

After 52 days later, in March 2017, the younger sister was also seen hanging in the same house.

The mother of the victim has expressed her discontent with the current CBI investigation after noticing that the CBI has been neglecting crucial evidence in the case that indicates this was a case of homicide rather than suicide.

She was basing her feelings on the trial court's observation that the CBI seemed unconcerned with their investigation and rushed to wrap it up without conducting a thorough inquiry.

The mother asked the court to oversee the CBI investigation and to order the agency to examine into homicidal possibilities in the victims' deaths, the strange death of two defendants in the case, and the potential participation of the child pornography mafia.
