LEYTON: Two women are fighting for life in hospital after being knocked down by a car in an alleged hit-and-run.The pedestrians were found critically injured after beign hit by a a red Range Rover Evoque as they crossed an eastbound carriageway early on Sunday morning, police said.

Police were called at around 5.45am to reports of the accident in Lea Bridge Road, near the junction with Orient Way in Leyton. Paramedics also rushed to the scene and took both women to hospital.

Scotland Yard said the pair are currently in a critical condition. According to the force, the car did not stop after the crash.

A spokesman for the Met Police said: "The car did not stop at the scene but was subsequently traced to an address in Walthamstow."
