KIEV: Ukrainian Defense Ministry spokesman Olexandr Motuzyanyk said on Wednesday that Russia has been evacuating soldiers from Kiev and Chernihiv directions in central and northern Ukraine, respectively.

"The General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces notices a certain partial transfer of individual units from the Kiev direction, as well as from the Chernihiv direction," Motuzyanyk said at a press conference.

There was reportedly no mass departure of Russian soldiers from those locations. After refilling the units that incurred the worst losses in the fights, Motuzyanyk stated that Russian forces might resume their advance against Kiev and Chernihiv.

Russia's Defense Ministry declared on Tuesday that the country has decided to scale back military action in the Kiev and Chernihiv directions.
