SAMBHAL: A 21-year-old guy, accused of raping a minor deaf and mute girl, killed himself by consuming poison at Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh.

He had allegedly raped the minor girl last Saturday and was absconding after the police filed a case following a complaint by her father.

Additional SP Shrish Chandra said, "On Sunday, the alleged rape victim and his brother left Aligarh where they were hiding. He then made his way to his sister's home in a Rajpura village. When he began to vomit, he was sent to a local hospital, where he succumbed to death Tuesday.

The body has been sent for an autopsy. It appears to be a poisoning case." The accused lived in a village in the Bahjoi region of the district and worked as a daily wager, the  police officer said.

The Brother of the accused said: "Being in a relationship with the girl, but having her parents file a rape allegation against him, my brother was scared. We attempted to persuade the girl's family to allow the marriage, but they were resistant and initiated legal action. He consumed some poison and killed himself out of fear of the authorities and going to jail."
