LUCKNOW: A contractor reportedly killed his wife and subsequently ended his own life by allegedly hanging himself at his house in Lucknow's Talkatora area, Police said on Wednesday.
The contractor was allegedly angry with his wife over her long telephonic chat with a friend. The contractor Kulwant Singh, aged 50, and his wife Pushpa Singh, aged38, lived at Ketan Vihar with their two teenage sons.
The incident happended when the couple was alone in the residence. The elder son had gone to study while the younger one was at a friend's place. When the younger son got home Tuesday night, he found the two dead and raised alarm.
Chiranjeev Nath Sinha, who is the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) for the West Zone, said that the woman's head was crushed and that her husband's body was found hanging from the ceiling fan.
On the floor was also a stone that was used to grind things. The bodies of both people have been sent for an autopsy.
He also said that no note was found at the scene.
"Family members say that Pushpa's long phone calls with a friend used to cause the couple to fight often. At first glance, it looks like the couple fought on Tuesday, when neither of their children was home, and the man killed his wife out of anger before hanging himself. The investigation is still going on, "said the ADCP.
Kulwant's nephew told the police that the couple had been having trouble with their relationship for the past month and that they fought a lot about it.
The older son replied, "Even though my parents fought a lot, we never thought something like this would happen. Around 10 a.m., I left the house to play at a friend's, and when I came back, they were dead. I told my aunt, and she told the police."
The bodies of the couple have been sent for an autopsy.
