As soon as the name of Bismillah Khan comes, one remembers the melodious melody of the shehnai and as soon as the name of the shehnai is taken, the expression of Bismillah Khan sahib emerges. He was synonymous with shehnai. In the last seven decades, whenever the shehnai resonated, Bismillah Khan was remembered. He will be remembered even further and will be remembered often, because there are fanatics like Bismillah Khan in centuries. In them, Banarasi thsak and fun were to be seen to the fullest. Born in the Muslim community, Bismillah Khan used to do Riyaz in the temple and worship Mother Saraswati. Today is the birthday of this great artist.

He himself used to tell an interesting anecdote: Ustad Bismillah Khan was born on this day i.e. on March 21 in a traditional Muslim family in Dumraon, Bihar. However, there are many differences of opinion regarding the year of his birth. Some people say that he was born in 1913 and some believe that 1916. His name was Kamaruddin Khan. He went to Mamu's house Banaras to celebrate Eid and after which Banaras became his place of work. His maternal uncle and guru Ali Baksh Sahib used to play shehnai in Balaji temple and also used to do Riyaz there. It was here that he started teaching shehnai to Bismillah Khan. Bismillah Khan used to tell about one of his interesting dreams, which got associated with his doing Riyaz in this temple. In a book, this story has also been given in his mouth. According to this, his maternal uncle used to ask for Riyaz in the temple and said that if anything happens here, do not tell anyone.

Always used to worship Maa Saraswati: Let us tell that only he knows the truth of this story of Bismillah Saheb, but this anecdote does the work of telling the culture which he believed in a lot. Despite being a Shia Muslim, he often always worshiped Maa Saraswati. He said that whatever he is, it is the grace of Maa Saraswati. For almost 70 years, Bismillah Sahab ruled the world of music with his shehnai. From playing the shehnai on the day of independence to the Red Fort and on the first Republic Day, he had also taunted in every big gathering. He also played shehnai in a Hindi movie 'Goonj Uthi Shehnai', but he did not like the atmosphere of the film. Later also played shehnai in a Kannada movie. Like most Banaras, he wanted to take his last breath in this city. He fell ill on 17 August 2006. He was admitted to Heritage Hospital in Varanasi. Due to a heart attack, he left the world on 21 August.
