Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Congress unit chief Ajay Kumar Lallu said on Saturday that the artisans were forced to leave their ancestral business due to lack of facilities, referring to the plight of the weavers in the state. Lallu has said that since the Congress was out of power in Uttar Pradesh about 30 years ago, the handloom sector has been continuously suffering due to the negligence of the government, as a result almost 80 percent of the handloom industry work has been stopped and the employment of millions of families has been lost.

Ajay Kumar Lallu said that there is a lack of basic facilities for the weavers, as a result, the skilled weavers are forced to pull their rickshaw-hawks to sell their loom. MLA Lallu from Tamkuhiraj seat of Kushinagar said that on Saturday, he raised the question under Rule 51 in the assembly and demanded that the weavers' electricity bill should be fixed on the lines of the farmers. He said that loom units should also be upgraded so that cotton products can be produced in Purvanchal.

The Uttar Pradesh Congress President, demanding implementation of the Ram Shah Commission Report made in the Congress regime for the benefit of the weavers, said that the weaver's commission was constituted like other commissions to overcome the problems of financial and educational backwardness of the weavers.
