Lucknow: After a long gap of 23 years in the case of selling adulterated milk in Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj district, a court has given its verdict. The court sentenced the accused milk seller to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000. The verdict was given by the court of Additional Sessions Judge Rekha Singh.

Assistant Government Pleader Sarveshwar Mani Tripathi informed that the case dates back to May 17, 1999. The then food inspector ML Gupta had taken a sample of milk from three milk sellers from near Officer Gate Colony here. A case was registered against Ramsajan, a resident of Khajuria under the Chowk police station area, this case after adulteration of milk was found. After the case was registered, the charge sheet reached the court, where the case was pending for 23 years. During the hearing on Friday, four witnesses were testified along with evidence by the public prosecutor. The court then sentenced the accused milk seller to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 20,000.

At the same time, in 1997, 14 people lost their lives in Shahjahanpur after eating bread made of poisonous flour. In this case, the court sentenced two people to life imprisonment. A fine of Rs 60,000 each has also been imposed on them. The court's decision came 25 years later. The Additional Sessions Court II, while pronouncing the verdict, convicted the shopkeepers, Satyanarayan Agarwal and Rakesh Kumar. The court sentenced both of them to life imprisonment.
