Facing economic crisis, the Uttarakhand government has now put on hold a proposal to cut some of the employees' allowances. The government has prepared a proposal to cut allowances on the lines of the Uttar Pradesh government. According to official sources, the proposal has been sent for approval at a higher level, but it has not been decided yet. Here, employee organizations have started protesting since the proposal was sent. The Uttarakhand Secretariat Union and the State Employees Joint Council have warned of opposing the cut in allowances. The Council will soon submit a memorandum in this regard to the Chief Secretary. The Uttar Pradesh government had on April 24 issued an order to cut its employees' half-dozen allowances.

These orders were taken due to the covid-19 pandemic and the decrease in revenue due to the lockdown. Employee leaders say that the UP government has started cutting allowances. Here, the Uttarakhand government is also trying to find a solution to the economic problem. After freezing dearness allowance, now the Finance Department has prepared a proposal to cut some allowances on the lines of UP. The allowances on which scissors have gone in UP include city compensation, special allowance of secretariat police and their organizations, research, order and design allowance of LONI and irrigation engineer.

A similar proposal has been prepared by the Finance Department here. The proposal has gone to a higher level for approval. According to sources, the approval of the Chief Secretary and the Chief Minister is awaited. Here, on hearing the proposal, Secretariat Union Secretary Rakesh Joshi met Secretary Finance Amit Singh Negi and requested that employees' allowance not be deducted. According to Joshi, the secretary has assured that allowances will not be cut. According to sources, the Finance Department has at present stopped the proposal.
