New Delhi: Shima Kathuria has come forward to defend her husband, Manuj Kathuria, following his arrest linked to a tragic flood incident in Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar, which resulted in the deaths of three UPSC aspirants. Manuj Kathuria was taken into custody after his SUV was reportedly involved in the flooding that breached the gates of Rau's Study Circle coaching center. The vehicle has been confiscated by the authorities.

In a statement to the media, Shima Kathuria explained that the police initially questioned her husband but assured him there would be no criminal charges. Despite this, Manuj Kathuria was later arrested, causing significant confusion and distress for the family.

Shima Kathuria criticized the handling of the situation, revealing that they were not informed of the specific charges—under Section 105, a non-bailable offense—until after repeated requests for the FIR copy.

She refuted claims that her husband's SUV was speeding, presenting video evidence showing the vehicle's brake lights were on. According to Shima, Manuj was driving cautiously through the water, which had risen to the level of the car's bonnet, making it impossible to turn back safely.

"The brake lights were on. When water reaches the bonnet of a car, no one would want to drive into that deliberately. He was continuously braking and trying to navigate through the water. By the time he realized how deep it was, it was too late to turn back. The only option was to move forward to a safer location, which is a decision any driver would make in that situation," Shima Kathuria explained.

She expressed faith in the judicial system, saying, "We trust that justice will be served. My husband was only trying to reach a safe place during an emergency."
