Guwahati: Police have arrested three persons in connection with the kidnapping and gangrape of an 18-year-old girl from Assam's Karimganj district on Sunday (August 28, 2022) morning. According to reports, the accused have been identified as Suleman Ali, Nasiruddin and Rahimuddin. One of the accused is still absconding. The accused are aged between 19-23 years. They are also residents of Dalgram village.

It is being told that one of the accused called the victim to a deserted place. The victim was well acquainted with the boy, so she did not think it appropriate to tell about this in her house and went to meet the boy. From there, four accused kidnapped her. The girl was taken to a forest near the Indo-Bangladesh border. The accused took turns raping her. The victim is said to be a resident of Neelam Bazar. When the girl did not return home even after it was too late, the parents lodged a complaint at Neelam Bazar police station. After this, a search operation was conducted by the officer-in-charge Deepjyoti Malakar. The victim was recovered from the forest and a case was registered based on her complaint.

In this case of kidnapping and gang rape, the police have arrested 3 out of 4 accused. Suleman Ali, Nasiruddin and Rahimuddin have been booked under IPC sections 366 and 376D (gang rape). Karimganj Superintendent of Police Padmanabha Barua said, "Three people, including the main accused, have been arrested. One of the accused is still absconding." The investigation into the matter is underway. A medical check-up of the victim and the accused has been done. At the same time, the family members of the accused claim that the victim was in a relationship with one of the accused and everything has happened with the consent of the girl.
