Ghaziabad: A 4-month-old boy is rescued by Police on Tuesday. According to the report, the infant, was kidnapped from Aligarh prison and sold to a woman in exchange for a sum of Rs 50,000.

The accused, identified as one Anita, was visiting her husband at Aligarh prison when she saw the child alone and decided to abduct him. As per report, Ghaziabad Police recused the child and also arrested the woman.

Officials of the Sihani Gate Police Station handed over the custody of the child to his family.

The case came to light when the child's mother, a woman named Priyanka, approached police with a missing person complaint. The mother claimed that her four-month-old son went missing from Aligarh Prison where she too was visiting her husband on May 17. A search was launched to locate the child and led investigators to Anita, who later confessed to kidnapping the boy and selling him off to her friend Hemlata.

Sanjay Kumar Pandey, Station house officer (SHO) of Sihani Gate Police Station told Indian Express that the accused was visiting her husband in prison when she spotted the child alone and kidnapped him with the intention of selling him off to her friend. Confirming that both the women have been arrested and sent to custody, Pandey added that Anita sold off the toddler for a sum of Rs 50,000. Both Anita and Hemlata belong to Daulatpur in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh and had been living in Ghaziabad for some years now.

After a tip-off led to their arrest, both Anita and Hemlata were booked under section 363 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which corresponds to charges of kidnapping.
