Port Blair: The number of people infected in the Union Territory has increased to 6,853 after nine new cases of corona infection were reported in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The death toll rose to 104 after another person died of infection. A health department official said on Tuesday that the number of people who were infection-free in the Union Territory increased to 6,495 after 22 more people recovered.
254 people are currently undergoing treatment for corona virus infection in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Information, Publicity and Tourism Secretary Sunil Kumar Singh said, "The administration is constantly working to protect citizens from getting infected with corona virus. He also said that all flights were also cancelled on Monday due to cyclonic weather. In Ferrarganj, 18 passengers were tested for rapid antigen, none of which were found positive.
The administration has announced a lockdown in south Andaman district from May 24 to break the chain of infection, which will remain in force till May 31. South Andaman district has the highest number of 247 active cases of infection. Shops of essential commodities will be open from 6 am to 8 am during restrictions.
