Tamil Nadu: A woman died after drowning in a waterlogged underpass in Pudukkottai district of Tamil Nadu. The accident happened on Friday night. Dr C Saathiya at Government Hospital in Hosur was trying to drive a car through a flooded railway underpass at Thudaiyur. Due to heavy rains, the underpass was flooded, and waterlogged. Unaware of this, Saathiya, who was with her mother-in-law. His car got stuck in the water and the doors were locked. Due to which he was unable to get out.

Keeranur police DSP D Sivasubramaniam, who is probing the incident, said at this time Saathiya called up her husband for help. Rescuers were able to get her injured mother-in-law out of the car, but Saathiya's seatbelt got stuck and she drowned before it was possible to get her out. Both the women were taken to Pudukkottai Government Hospital where Saathiya was declared brought dead. The DSP says that her mother-in-law is recovering from her injuries.

There were no warning signs in front of the underpass. It was night time too and the place was deserted. A lorry was also stuck in the same underpass,” says the DSP.
