Bangalore: Khushboo Sundar, the legendary actress and Tamil Nadu BJP leader, lauded the Karnataka BJP government on Thursday for taking a position to free temples from government control. "Every other religious institution is free except temples," she said, "therefore this is a really important decision."

A similar demand has been made to the Tamil Nadu government. "We've been keeping a close eye on the Tamil Nadu administration and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's stance. During the election campaign in Tamil Nadu, the promise of releasing temples from state authority was made "she explained.

The government would introduce a new Bill to free temples from state control, according to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who spoke at the BJP's executive committee meeting in Hubballi on Wednesday. He said, under the rule of governmental officials and bureaucrats, Hindu temples have suffered greatly. The development of temples is hampered by a number of rules and bylaws. Before the Budget Session, the new Bill will be presented to the cabinet. The temple authorities will be subject to government regulation, but they will be free to use their finances for temple development without waiting for approval from the government.
