AMARAVATI: When a young girl in Andhra Pradesh refused a young man's attempt to sexually assault her, he poured acid into her mouth and sliced her throat.

The shocking incident took place on Monday night in a village in the SPSR Nellore area while the class 9 kid, 14, was home alone. The victim went into the bathroom and locked herself inside after the accused stormed the house in an effort to protect herself.

The young man attempted to sexually abuse her after breaking open the door. He attacked her with toilet cleaning acid, pouring it into her mouth and face as she resisted him. The attacker cut her throat with a knife and fled as she began to scream.

The girl's parents were notified when they learned she was laying in a pool of blood by the girl's neighbours, who had left for work. The victim was taken to a hospital, where it is said that she is in critical condition.

Police have taken Nagaraju, the accused, into custody. He is allegedly related to the victim. Police believe that more people may have assisted the suspects.

The incident triggered public outrage. People demanded severe punishment  to be given to the culprit.
Kakani Goverdhan Reddy, the state's agriculture minister, paid a visit to the hospital, called the victim's relatives, and asked the staff about her health.
