Karnataka: Karnataka's annual Hasanamba festival kicked off on Thursday with the opening of Hasanamba Temple's doors in the presence of elected officials and senior officers. Only during this festival is the temple open to devotees. Excise Minister K. Gopalaiah, Law Minister J.C. Madhuswamy, Preetham Gowda, MLA, and others were present when the doors were opened at 12:15 p.m. On this occasion, a group of priests performed rituals.

On the first day, the district administration decided that only elected officials and officers would be allowed into the temple. Many devotees, however, waited in line to receive darshan. They were required to carry certificates proving their vaccination against COVID-19. There was no way to verify whether or not the devotees had certificates. The COVID-19 devotees hardly acted in a COVID-19-appropriate manner.

On November 6, the festival will come to a close. On all days except the last, when traditional rituals are performed, devotees have access to the temple. Devotees can purchase special passes for between Rs. 300 and Rs. 1,000. The administration has made provisions for devotees who are waiting in long lines.
