The Calcutta High Court ordered the State Election Commission to meet with state officials, including the Chief Secretary and DGP, to examine the situation on the ground and determine whether the deployment of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) is necessary for the state's municipal elections.

The court stated that the decision must be made within the next 12 hours.  In a plea seeking the deployment of central paramilitary forces in the next municipal elections, the Calcutta High Court bench of Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj has deferred its decision.

It is the Commission's job to ensure a peaceful vote. "After reviewing the law and order situation, the Commission will have to make a decision," the Court stated. "If the Central forces are to be deployed," the Court ordered, "the Commission to conduct a meeting with the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, and Director General of Police (DGP)."

At the same time, the Calcutta High Court's division bench requested the commission to assess whether the results of the other 108 constituencies should be announced alongside the results of the four municipal elections.

According to a State Election Commission ruling, elections for four Municipal Corporations, namely Siliguri Municipal Corporation, Chandernagore Municipal Corporation, Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, and Asansol Municipal Corporation, were previously scheduled for January 22, 2022.
