Rajnandgaon: A fierce encounter took place between the police and the Naxals on Saturday afternoon in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district, bordering Chhattisgarh. While informing the media about the incident, Gadchiroli SP Shailesh Balakwade told that the police search was started after the Naxalites were hiding in the Sinbhatti-Jarawandi area of Etapalli tehsil.
When the police personnel were moving towards the information place in the forest, then the Naxalites sitting ambush started firing on the police. Police personnel retaliated and fired on it. In this encounter, 16 lakh prize money Naxalite Shranakka aka Chinakka has been piled up. SP Shailesh Balakwade further informed that some more Naxalites have been shot in the encounter and they are hiding in the forest itself.
The police team is conducting a search operation. During the search in the area, police have found AK 47 rifle, pressure cooker, claymore mines as well as a large quantity of other items. According to the police, the woman killed in the encounter was the head of the Chittagong Kasansur Dalam Gram Sabha. The body of a female Naxalite killed in the encounter has been brought to Gadchiroli district headquarters. Currently the search operation is going on.
