Chandigarh: Punjab Police announced on Tuesday that they have successfully dismantled a cross-border drug smuggling network, leading to the arrest of 12 individuals and the confiscation of 4 kilograms of heroin along with Rs 3 lakh in drug money.

The Director General of Police for Punjab Police shared the significant development on social media platform X, highlighting it as a major setback to trans-border narcotics trafficking. The operation, carried out by the Amritsar Commissionerate Police, targeted a heroin smuggling racket operating across borders.

Additionally, the post revealed the utilization of drones to facilitate the transportation of drugs from Pakistan into Indian territory, particularly in the Tarn Taran area.

The drug smuggling module was reportedly orchestrated by a top smuggler based in Malaysia, who is wanted in numerous drug-related cases. Notably, the individual is allegedly linked to the major drug seizure of 532 kilograms of heroin at the Attari International Check Post in 2019, spearheaded by Kingpin Ranjeet Singh, also known as Cheeta of Sarai Amanat Khan.

Authorities have affirmed that the investigation into the matter is ongoing, with efforts focused on uncovering both backward and forward linkages associated with the smuggling network. This comprehensive approach aims to facilitate additional recoveries and apprehend more individuals involved in illicit drug trafficking activities.
