New Delhi: The Delhi  AAP government has approved the transplantation of 173 trees for the development of Executive Enclave, that will house the new prime minister’s office, cabinet secretariat, India House and the National Security Council Secretariat, officials said on Tuesday.

The Executive Enclave will come up on the south side of South Block in plot number 36/38 in the high-security Lutyens’, New Delhi.

"Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has cleared the way for the Executive Enclave of the Prime Minister. The chief minister has approved the file after the CPWD requested permission from the Delhi government to transplant 173 trees from the project site, which has sped up the project, according to a Delhi government official.

The idea was authorised by the Kejriwal administration under the condition that the agency takes up 10-times as much compensatory plantation.

Delhi LG VK Saxena issued a letter to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in August of last year, listing a number of projects, including the Executive Enclave, that were delayed because tree removal permits were delayed. Kejriwal has been asked to handle such applications within the allotted 60 days.

The Center's large-scale Central Vista redevelopment project will include the construction of The Executive Enclave. The Executive Enclave, which would cost approximately Rs 1,189 crore, will house the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), cabinet secretariat, India House, and the National Security Council Secretariat.

The India House will be utilized as a conference hall like the Hyderabad House where high-level discussion, especially with top visiting leaders of various countries, are currently held.

A new Parliament building, a common central secretariat, a new prime minister's office and residence, and a new vice-president enclave are all part of the plans for the reconstruction of the Central Vista, the country's power corridor.
According to a statement from the Delhi government, Chief Minister Kejriwal's "timely intervention" in the situation has helped "expedite" the project.

"A while back, the responsible authorities asked the Delhi government for permission to transplant some trees at the project site. Given the significance of the situation, the Chief Minister took it on first, and his prompt intervention in the subject has aided in the project's acceleration, the statement stated.
