Delhi Metro Gets Green Light for Two New Corridors, Enhancing Connectivity

The Union Cabinet has given the nod to two fresh corridors in Delhi Metro's Phase-IV project, announced Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday. These corridors, namely Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block and Inderlok to Indraprastha, will span a total of 20.762 kilometers, with a combined cost estimated at Rs. 8,400 crore. The funding for these projects will come from the Union and Delhi governments along with international funding agencies.

According to Minister Thakur, these new lines are set to be completed by March 2029. He stated, "Today, two new metro corridors have been given permission, on which Rs. 8400 crore will be spent. There will be about an 8.4-kilometer metro line from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block, with eight stations. The second is from Inderlok to Indraprastha, covering a metro line of about 12.4 kilometers. It will be completed by March 2029."

The Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block corridor, spanning 8.4 kilometers, will be entirely elevated and will include eight stations. These stations are: Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj, Greater Kailash – 1, Chirag Delhi, Pushpa Bhawan, Saket District Centre, Pushp Vihar, and Saket G – Block. This corridor aims to enhance connectivity in South Delhi areas such as Andrews Ganj and Greater Kailash.

The Inderlok to Indraprastha corridor, stretching 12.4 kilometers, will have 11.35 kilometers underground and 1.028 kilometers elevated, incorporating ten stations. These stations include: Inderlok, Daya Basti, Sarai Rohilla, Ajmal Khan Park, Nabi Karim, New Delhi, LNJP Hospital, Delhi Gate, Delhi Sachivalaya, and Indraprastha. This corridor will notably improve connectivity to the Bahadurgarh region of Haryana.

Currently, the Delhi Metro operates over a network of 392.44 kilometers across 12 corridors in the NCR, with an additional 34 kilometers of RRTS operational in the region. With over 60 lakh passengers commuting daily, the Delhi Metro stands as one of the largest metro networks globally.
