Dennis Quaid and Annaleigh Ashford are set to star in the upcoming series 'Happy Face,' the Hollywood report reads.

Quaid will be playing one of the main roles alongside Ashford, who will portray the character Melissa.

The show is based on a podcast of the same name produced by iHeartMedia, as well as the book 'Shattered Silence' co-authored by Melissa Moore and M. Bridget Cook, recounting Moore's personal story.

Moore's life took a dramatic turn when she discovered, at the age of 15, that her father, Keith Hunter Jesperson, was the notorious serial killer known as the 'Happy Face' Killer. This revelation came after Jesperson left smiling faces on evidence while bragging about his crimes.

After this shocking revelation, Moore changed her identity and kept her father's true identity a secret while he was serving a life sentence in prison.

The series delves into Moore's journey, with Quaid playing the role of the incarcerated serial killer, Melissa's father, who attempts to re-enter her life after decades of separation. Melissa, played by Ashford, is faced with the challenge of uncovering the truth about her father's crimes before an innocent man is wrongly punished.

Quaid, who has previously starred in Paramount+ series like 'Lawmen: Bass Reeves,' brings his talent to this new project. He is widely recognized for his roles in films such as 'The Rookie,' 'The Day After Tomorrow,' and 'The Parent Trap.'

'Happy Face' is scheduled to begin production on its first season, consisting of eight episodes, in Vancouver this spring. The series is slated to premiere on Paramount+ in 2025.

Jennifer Cacicio serves as the series' writer, executive producer, and showrunner, with King Size Productions, owned by Robert and Michelle King, also on board as executive producers. Other executive producers include Liz Glotzer of King Size, Melissa Moore, Conal Byrne, Will Pearson, and Jordana Mollick of iHeartMedia.

Michael Showalter will direct the first episode and also serve as an executive producer. The series will be produced by CBS Studios, where the Kings have an overall deal.
