Shoaib Akhtar, a former Pakistan fast bowler, revealed his mother's death on social media late Saturday, drawing condolences from the cricketing community, including former India spinner Harbhajan Singh, who just resigned from all forms of cricket.

Akhtar, who is considered as one of the quickest bowlers in world cricket, took to Twitter to say, "With Allah taala's will, my mother, my everything, has gone to the highest abode. The funeral prayers will be conducted at sector H-8 of Islamabad."

Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh expressed his sympathy on Twitter. "I just wanted to contact out and express my sincere sympathies to you during this difficult time. Let her rest in peace. My brother, be strong. Waheguru Mehar kare, Waheguru Mehar kare, Waheguru Mehar kar "Harbhajan penned a piece.

In international cricket, the 46-year-old Akhtar holds the record for the fastest delivery, delivered at 161 kmph against New Zealand in 2002. Veteran Pakistan batter Shoaib Malik, who played a vital role in his team making it to the ICC T20 World Cup semifinal in the UAE where they lost to ultimate champions Australia by five wickets, tweeted, "We all are with you in this difficult time brother. May the Almighty grant her the highest rank in jannah, …ameen @shoaib100mph."
