GHMC officials shift homeless people of Nampally 'Labor Adda' to Begumpet shelter home

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is running a special drive to make the city beggar free. Officials said that steps are being taken at the field level to make the homeless, people living on footpaths and those living in shelter homes across the city beggar-free, near railway stations. As part of the drive on Friday, civic body officials spotted homeless people and elderly people living on footpaths at the 'Labor Adda' at Nampally railway station and shifted them to the Begumpet shelter home.

 He said that people with health problems are being treated at nearby Basti dispensary and government hospitals. There are 13 shelter homes in GHMC limits. Even migrants and poor can avail the services of shelter homes free of cost. Most of these houses are maintained by non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

GHMC pays them monthly. According to officials, around 350-370 people are living in these shelter homes. Every Saturday, GHMC officials inspect these houses and check their maintenance. Migrant workers and homeless people availed the services of shelter homes during the covid lockdown and night curfew.
