Patna: Union Minister Giriraj Singh has called for a nationwide National Register of Citizens (NRC), criticizing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for opposing the idea, in response to Himachal Pradesh's Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh’s remarks on immigrants in the state. Singh alleged that illegal land acquisitions by the WAQF Board were contributing to rising tensions.

Singh stated, "While Rahul Gandhi opposes NRC, Himachal Pradesh Minister Anirudh Singh, in the presence of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has called for an investigation into immigrants, implying the need for NRC. This is necessary across the country to prevent Indian origins from going extinct." Singh also accused some mosques of being used for terrorism and alleged that the WAQF Board has been illegally occupying and increasing its properties. He claimed, "The Congress government allowed the WAQF Board to seize lands unlawfully. In Himachal Pradesh, a minister has revealed how the WAQF Board’s wealth has surged. This includes halting Railway projects and grabbing farmers' lands in Karnataka."

Furthermore, Singh criticized Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi, accusing him of attempting a second partition of the country. Singh remarked, "Owaisi’s rhetoric is instigative, and if this were Pakistan or Bangladesh, his voice would be silenced." In response, Congress minister Anirudh Singh emphasized the peaceful coexistence of the Muslim community in Himachal Pradesh but acknowledged concerns over verifying newcomers from other states. Singh called for vigilance to ensure security, asserting, "This isn’t about religious differences but ensuring legal and secure migration. Proper checks are essential for those arriving in Himachal Pradesh." The Sanjauli Mosque issue remains a contentious topic, with ongoing political debate between BJP and Congress leaders.
