Heavy Rain Forces Closure of All Educational Institutions in Kasaragod, Kerala

Kasaragod: Due to persistent heavy rain, all educational institutions in Kasaragod district will remain closed tomorrow. This includes colleges (both general and professional), State, CBSE, ICSC schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Anganwadis, and Madrasahs. The closure on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, is a precautionary step to ensure safety amid the ongoing severe weather conditions.

Despite the closure, previously scheduled exams will proceed as planned. District Collector K Impashekhar declared the holiday after most areas in Kasaragod district experienced significant rainfall over the past 24 hours. Numerous locations have reported waterlogging and formation of water dams due to the downpour.

The heavy rains are affecting all districts across the state. The Central Meteorological Department has forecasted that the rain will persist for the next five days. Kasaragod has been placed under a red alert today, with an orange alert issued for tomorrow, indicating the likelihood of continued heavy rainfall in the days to come.

At least 85 people have died, and hundreds are feared trapped following a series of landslides triggered by torrential rain in Kerala's Wayanad district on Tuesday. Numerous devastating videos showcasing the destruction are being widely circulated on social media. Among these, a video of the renowned Athirapilly Waterfalls in Thrissur district has also gone viral.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for five districts, warning of extremely heavy rainfall. Additionally, an orange alert has been issued for seven districts, and a yellow alert for two districts on July 30.
