THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala High Court has ordered the Vigilance investigation into the mining of flood-damaged sand from the Triveni bank of the river Pampa in Kerala to be extended.
The Thiruvananthapuram Vigilance Court has previously ordered a Vigilance investigation into the case. On a review appeal submitted by the state government, the court overturned the vigilance court order.
The investigation was ordered by the Vigilance Court after the state dismissed the Senior Congress Leader Ramesh Chennithala's request for a Vigilance probe. He claimed there was corruption in the awarding of the contract to mine and transport sand to a Kannur-based company.
After reports surfaced that the former Chief Secretary Tom Jose, the then Chief Secretary Viswas Mehta, and the then State Police Chief Loknath Behera flew to Pampa in a helicopter taken on wet lease from Pawan Hans and held a meeting to finalise the deal, Chennithala demanded a Vigilance investigation. It is pertinent to note that When Ramesh Chennithala was the Kerala opposition leader, he filed the case.
