The 2nd Hockey India Junior Men and Women East Zone Championship 2024 is set to start at the Netaji Subhas Eastern Centre in Salt Lake, Kolkata, this Sunday. The tournament will see six teams in both the men's and women's categories competing in round-robin matches, with the top two teams from each category advancing to the finals on July 21.

The participating teams for both the men's and women's categories are Hockey Jharkhand, Hockey Association of Odisha, Hockey Bihar, Hockey Bengal, Assam Hockey, and Manipur Hockey. This championship aims to provide a significant platform for emerging young talent in the region, showcasing their skills and fostering their development.

In the women's category, the tournament will kick off with a match between Manipur Hockey and Hockey Jharkhand. This will be followed by clashes between Assam Hockey and the Hockey Association of Odisha, and Hockey Bengal and Hockey Bihar. In the men's category, the opening match will feature Hockey Jharkhand facing Manipur Hockey, followed by games between the Hockey Association of Odisha and Assam Hockey, and Hockey Bihar versus Hockey Bengal.

"Kolkata has a rich history in hockey, and we are thrilled that the 2nd Hockey India Junior Men and Women East Zone Championship will highlight the brightest young talents starting tomorrow," said Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey. Echoing his sentiments, Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh remarked, "It is crucial that youngsters receive constant exposure to aid their development in the early stages of their careers."

The event promises to be an exciting showcase of skill, determination, and sportsmanship. With the best young players from the East Zone competing, hockey enthusiasts are in for a treat as these promising athletes take to the field to make their mark.
