At its European launch event on Tuesday, HBO Max unveiled a teaser video for its highly anticipated 'Game of Thrones' prequel 'House of the Dragon,' which has a large cast. Between 2011 and 2019, the American fantasy drama series 'Game of Thrones' gained an international cult following after airing 73 episodes over eight seasons.

'House of the Dragon,' based on George R.R. Martin's 2018 novel 'Fire & Blood,' is set 200 years before the events of 'Game of Thrones,' and recounts the narrative of the Targaryen House and the 'Dance of the Dragons,' which took place during the Targaryen civil war. Martin, incidentally, is also the author of 'A Song of Ice and Fire' fantasy novels, which inspired the 'Game of Thrones' series.

The series, co-created by Martin and Ryan Condal and set to premiere in 2022, has been awarded a 10-episode order by the network. The trailer, which includes glimpses of battle sequences and jousting, includes a voiceover from Matt Smith's character, Prince Daemon Targaryen, who says, "Gods, kings, fire, and blood are all there. Dragons, not dreams, crowned us rulers."

Smith is best known for playing the Doctor in the BBC series 'Dr Who,' but fans of 'The Crown' will recognise him as the youthful Prince Philip.
