Investigating Officer in Guwahati Rave Party Case Suspended

Guwahati: An investigating officer has been suspended by the city police department for alleged dereliction of duty. The officer in question is Taraprasad Singh, ASI of Latasil police station. Guwahati Police on Friday night raided a house party in Kharghuli area and arrested 18 people in the case. The police team also recovered cocaine, ganja and other banned material from their procession.

Police sources informed that the 18 persons were taking part in the rave party without following the COVID-19 protocols. The raid in the apartment on the third floor of Riveria Apartment in Kharghuli took place after 11:30 pm on Friday night. The operation was launched following tipoffs. The apartment belongs to Vikash Jain (55 years of age), who is a builder by profession. He has been already arrested along with 17 other persons who were present in the rave party.

Among the arrested persons are Naseef Ahmed (aged 53) - a resident of Paltan Bazar area; Sumit Kumar Beria (45 of Tarun Nagar in Bhangagarh); Chayan Saikia (32 of Sevli Path in Hatigaon); Amit Pegu (39 of Mathura Nagar in Dispur); Amit Barua (Zooga Ghar Narenge Road, 45 of Geetanagar); Ashok Burman (35 of Rukminigaon in Dispur); Hirendra Sinha (38 of Patharquary in Bishnu Nagar); Ridib Barua (Zoo 42 of Narengi Road, Geetanagar); Rakesh Bargohain (46 of Rukmini Nagar in Dispur); Pankaj Kakoti (Rukminigaon in Dispur); and Siddhartha Barthakur (29 of Dinesh Oja Path Bhangagarh). Six women are also among the 18 people arrested.
