Garhwa: An incident of mob lynching has been reported from Garhwa in Jharkhand. Here, a 70-year-old woman was beaten up by the villagers accusing her of witchcraft, after which, she lost her life. The incident took place at Khuri village under the Chinia police station area. The person has been arrested in the case. He is being questioned.

The victim's family said that five people suddenly came to their house and dragged the old woman from the house and took her 200 metres away. There, the five men thrashed the old woman with sticks and rods. The woman kept begging for mercy, but they did not melt and beat her brutally. They beat the old man so much that she lost her life. On receiving the information, the police rushed to the spot and took the body into custody and sent it for post-mortem. The victim's family alleged that the villagers used to accuse the woman of witchcraft.

Recently, an incident of mob lynching was also reported in the Bharno police station area of Gumla district. Some men beat 45-year-old Shamim Ansari to death with sticks and rods only because he had resisted the cutting of the tree. Shamim Ansari used to stop the timber mafia by illegally cutting trees from the forests. Those who cut timber illegally in the forest beat up Shamim Ansari, who headed the Village Forest Conservation Committee, till he died. In fact, Shamim Ansari had received the news of the illegal felling of trees, after which, he reached the spot and forbade the timber mafia from doing so. The timber mafias, in a fit of rage, started beating Shamim brutally with sticks and rods.
