East Godavari district police issued notice to former MLA and Telugu Desam Party leader Dilipalla Narendra for the charges leveled by him on the issue of drugs. The Kakinada Police served notice at Narendra's house in Chintalapudi of Ponnur mandal of Guntur district. It all started with the incident in which a fisherman's boat was gutted in a fire accident in the Buckingham Canal on 16 September. Fire brigade and police personnel reached the spot and doused the fire. Fire officials said that the accident happened due to a short circuit.

But Narendra said medicines worth a few crore rupees were destroyed in the accident and accused the government of drug smuggling, raising doubts about the cause of the fire accident. The opposition parties created a ruckus over the alleged drug trafficking and the serious charges leveled by him on the government. However, leaders of the ruling party had denied the allegations and warned of cases against the opposition leaders for spewing venom on the government without any evidence.

Eluru Range DIG K.V. Mohan Rao said that the former MLA has been asked to present evidence before the police and cooperate in the investigation of the case. East Godavari Superintendent of Police M. Rabindranath Babu said that the TDP leader should present the evidence available with him in the boat accident case before One Town Police, Kakinada. "If TDP leaders fail to produce evidence in support of their allegations, action will be taken against them as per law," Mohan Rao said.
