Landslides in Darjeeling disrupt traffic between Bengal and Sikkim

Kolkata: Rain continues to lash Darjeeling in West Bengal. A landslide has occurred in Sevok on National Highway 10 connecting Bengal to Sikkim. Due to this, the road has been closed and there is a long jam. Efforts from administration are being made to clear the way. A major accident took place on Wednesday in Siliguri, adjoining Darjeeling, in which two tourists and a driver went missing.

Both the tourists are reported to be residents of Rajasthan and the driver was driving a Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV). His car fell into the Teesta river in Sowake near Darjeeling. A local man reported the incident over the phone to the police. Police rushed to the spot after receiving information that the vehicle number plate, its roof and a pair of shoes were recovered.

Police informed the disaster management team about the incident and launched a search operation for the missing persons. It is feared that the vehicle may have been washed away in the strong current of the Teesta river and all the three deceased may have been hit by it. However, police and rescue teams are searching for the missing persons. With this, the police is interrogating the local people.
