Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: A large number of devotees gathered at the Mahakaleshwar Temple on Monday to celebrate Shri Krishna Janmashtami. The temple, renowned for its vibrant festivities, featured a special Bhasma Aarti where Lord Shiva was adorned as Lord Krishna.

Devotees arrived at the temple late into the night to participate in the ceremonies. Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav also took part in the Bhasma Aarti, showing deep devotion as he joined the rituals in the Nandi hall of the temple.

The Bhasma Aarti, a traditional offering with ashes, is conducted during the Brahma Muhurta, which is between 3:30 AM and 5:30 AM. This ritual is believed to fulfill the wishes of those who partake in it.

Temple priest Ashish Pujari explained, “As per tradition, the doors of Baba Mahakal were opened during Brahma Muhurta. Lord Mahakal was then bathed with Panchamrit—a mixture of milk, curd, ghee, sugar, and honey. Following this, Lord Mahakal was decorated with cannabis and sandalwood and dressed as Shri Krishna for Janmashtami. The Bhasma Aarti was performed with drums and conch shells.”

Minister Jadhav expressed his contentment, saying, “Worshipping at Mahakaleshwar, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, and participating in the Bhasma Aarti has been a fulfilling experience. I prayed for happiness, good rainfall, and the well-being of farmers.”

The atmosphere at the Mahakaleshwar Temple was filled with excitement and joy as devotees eagerly awaited this special occasion. Many brought offerings of Laddu Gopal and enjoyed the divine darshan of Baba Mahakal.
