Akola: A shocking case has come to light from Akola in Maharashtra. In fact, here a woman was sentenced for remarrying after divorce. The woman is said to be 35 years old and when she got married again, a 'caste panchayat' of her community ordered her to lick her spit as a punishment. An official in the case said last Friday that the Caste Panchayat has also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the woman. The woman reportedly lodged a police complaint following the panchayat's order. The woman said the incident took place last month.

The officer who wrote the complaint in the case said, "An FIR was lodged against 10 members of the Caste Panchayat under Sections 5 and 6 of the Maharashtra Protection of Social Boycott Act, 2016 after a woman living in Jalgaon complained. The official also said that an FIR has been registered at Chopda City police station in Jalgaon last Thursday evening. Shortly thereafter, the investigation into the case was handed over to Pinjar police station in Akola as this was the case." An official said that according to the complaint, the incident took place on April 9 in Akola where a caste panchayat was called in connection with the decision on the second marriage of the victim.

At the same time, the official also said that the victim belongs to the 'Nath Jogi' community and the caste panchayat of her community does not accept her second marriage. According to him, the victim got married again in 2019 after her divorce from her first husband in 2015. She was first married in 2011. The panchayat discussed the woman's second marriage and called her sister and other relatives. He then said that as per the verdict, the members of the caste panchayat will spit on a banana leaf and the victim will lick it as a punishment. At the same time, the panchayat also asked the victim to pay Rs 1 lakh. After all this, the victim lodged a complaint with the police station.
