Man arrested for raping woman in south Delhi's Mehrauli

New Delhi: The Delhi Police have detained a man for allegedly raping a girl in Mehrauli in the national capital.

The victim told the police that she had been in contact with the accused for more than a month and that the incident took place when he visited her flat while under the influence of alcohol.

A call to the Police Control Room call regarding rape was received at PS Mehrauli on September 25. Police reached the spot and took the victim and alleged accused to the Police Station, where the victim said that she is in contact with the accused for the past one and half months...," said Delhi Police.

It went on to say, "...the accused entered her apartment while inebriated and sexually assaulted her. She then contacted the police and put him in a room."

The man has been identified as Harjeet Yadav, a resident of Khanpur in Delhi and reportedly a political party member.
DCP (South) Chandan Chowdhary was informed that the police had detained the suspect and had filed a case against him under sections 376 (Punishment for rape), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 509 (Word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and 377 (Unnatural offences) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). More information is awaited.
