Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the creation of five new districts in the Union Territory of Ladakh, viewing it as a crucial advancement for better governance and regional prosperity. The districts—Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang—were introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

In a social media post, PM Modi extended his congratulations to the residents of Ladakh. He highlighted that the new administrative divisions will facilitate more focused attention and bring essential services and opportunities closer to the people.

"Creating these five new districts in Ladakh is a significant step towards enhancing governance and ensuring prosperity. With Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang now receiving more dedicated attention, essential services and opportunities will be more accessible. Congratulations to the people of Ladakh," Modi noted.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah echoed this sentiment, underscoring that the initiative aligns with PM Modi’s vision for a developed Ladakh. He noted that the new districts are expected to strengthen governance and ensure that benefits are delivered to every part of the region.

"This development will ensure that the benefits intended for the people reach them more directly by enhancing governance throughout the region," Shah said.

This decision continues the government's commitment to enhancing administrative efficiency and development in Ladakh, a Union Territory since August 5, 2019, when the former state of Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated. The abrogation of Article 370 on the same day led to the formation of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir as separate Union Territories.

As a Union Territory, Ladakh is directly overseen by the Union Home Ministry, which has been pivotal in driving reforms and development efforts in the region.
