Lady Gaga has decided to forgo tonight's MTV Video Music Awards in Brooklyn. On social media, the singer kept it quiet, not revealing her whereabouts. She did not walk the red carpet in Brooklyn. Gaga's decision to miss the VMAs is understandable: The singer is nominated in two categories, both of which are minor: Best Cinematography (“911”) and Best Art Direction (“911”).

Last May, Gaga discussed with Zane Lowe how making Chromatica helped her reflect on her mental health difficulties and journey. “I believe the opening of the album really signifies, for me, the beginning of what I would call my path to healing, and what I hope would be an inspiration for those who are in need of healing through happiness, through dance,” Gaga told Variety. “And that, to me, is radical acceptance... For example, I am aware that I suffer from mental health difficulties and that these disorders can occasionally render me ineffective as a human being. However, I firmly believe that this is true.”

She went on to say that the healing process eventually lead her to accept herself for her previous harmful actions. She added, "I forgive myself for all the ways I've punished myself in secret." “I've never hidden the fact that I used to cut hair. And I've been honest about having unhealthy masochistic tendencies. They're all ways of showing embarrassment. They're means of expressing feelings of inadequacy, yet they're ineffective. They make you feel even worse.”
